About me
: Johan Oomen is Research Director at the Netherlands Institute for Sound & Vision and a researcher at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. With an academic background in Media Studies and Information Science, he has spent more than two decades working at the intersection of cultural heritage, media, digital infrastructure and European research collaboration. His work focuses on how archives, libraries and museums can strengthen public access to knowledge in a rapidly changing technological landscape, with particular attention to audiovisual heritage, data governance and artificial intelligence. Over the course of his career, he has played a leading role in numerous European initiatives that connect cultural heritage, innovation and public values. He is the founder of EUscreen, the European network and platform for television heritage, which has helped make audiovisual collections more accessible and reusable across borders. He is also a member of the VUC commission. Through his research and strategic work, Johan contributes to the development of sustainable, open and publicly accountable infrastructures for media and heritage in Europe.
