Thais Continentino Blank holds a PhD in Communication and Culture from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and in Cultural and Social History of Art from Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne (2015), as well as an MA in Communication and Culture (UFRJ, 2010) and a BA in Film Studies from PUC-Rio (2007).She is Vice-Director and Associate Professor at the School of Social Sciences at FGV CPDOC, where she also teaches and conducts research in the Graduate Program in History, Politics and Cultural Heritage. She is Academic Coordinator and Editing Professor of the Graduate Program in Documentary Cinema at FGV and previously coordinated the Audiovisual and Documentary Center (2015–2024) and the Documentation of Historical Archives (2021–2023). She leads the CNPq research group Laboratory for Visual Culture Studies (LECV). Her research focuses on film history, documentary, audiovisual language, and visual culture, with particular emphasis on archival images—their preservation, materiality, circulation, and their role in shaping contemporary Brazilian history.
